AGRICULTURE APPROPRIATIONS BILL CALL ALERT

Please call conference committee members from Texas, Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock; Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston; and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and urge them to pass the Senate version of the Agriculture Appropriations bill to help hungry Texans.

BACKGROUND

Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are meeting this week in a conference committee to come to an agreement on how agriculture-related programs, including nutrition programs such as the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) are going to be funded in the next fiscal year (via the “Agriculture Appropriations” bill).

The House-passed version of the bill contained deep cuts to TEFAP and WIC. The Senate-passed version did not.
