Call your member of Congress toll-free at (877) 698-8228 and urge him/her to pass the Healthy and Hunger Free Kids Act (S. 3307) to help hungry Texas children.

BACKGROUND

Child hunger is a huge problem nationwide and in Central Texas.  Among national child hunger rates, Texas ranks second.  We have an opportunity to intervene and urge our members of the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Healthy and Hunger Free Kids Act (S. 3307).  If passed, this bill will bring millions of new federal dollars to children at risk of hunger in Texas, institute new nutrition standards to fight child obesity, and significantly increase funding for after-school programs such as Kids Cafe.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Call your member of the U.S. House of Representatives office in Washington, D.C.using the Feeding America toll-free number (877) 698-8228.
  2. Ask for the staff member working on nutrition issues.  If you cannot reach that person, leave a message with the person who answers the phone.
  3. Provide your name, city, and state.
  4. Explain that as a concerned citizen, you care about children at risk of hunger in your community and country.  You want children to be nourished while in school, afterschool, and during the summer.  Your member of the House must pass a Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill, but not at the cost of cutting SNAP benefits for millions of people.
